History of the Fort Collins Outlaws.

Youth football has been part of Fort Collins sports history for decades and many generations of kids

were able to enjoy the great game of football as a result. We are grateful to all those who dedicated

themselves as administrators, coaches, and officials to making youth tackle football so successful over

the years.

The Fort Collins Outlaws which to continue to honor all those that have devoted themselves to youth

football in our community as we look towards the future.

For those that grew up in Fort Collins over the last few decades youth football was primarily run by the

recreation department at the City of Fort Collins under the “JAA “or Junior Athletic Association

affiliation. For many years JAA football was the only option for those wanting to play youth tackle

football in Fort Collins. The city did a great job running youth football and provided a good starting point

for those who wanted to play tackle football growing up. Games normally took place at City Park and

lots of great memories were made under the big oak trees in the park.

Poudre School district has offered middle school tackle football for many years and the recreational

youth football leagues in Fort Collins would generally run up through the 6 th or 7 th grade, after which

point kids would get play for their middle school and eventually their high school if they continued

playing football.

In 2010 the Noco Pop Warner Football Association was created by a group of families who wanted to

offer an alternative for those families who were wanting to play tackle football in a more competitive

environment than what the traditional recreational tackle football programs in Northern Colorado

offered. The league grew very quickly and several of the teams associated with NoCo Pop Warner had a

lot of success over the years.

Initially, the Fort Collins Big Horns was the name of the team for all age groups associated with the NoCo

Pop Warner league. As the league grew there was a need to create more than one team for each grade

level and as teams were being added was where the “Outlaws” name came about.

The Fort Collins Outlaws name was created in 2013 and this team continued to have success for many

years, even on a national level. Eventually the founders of NoCo Football and the key stake holders

moved on to other things and the league was no longer operational.

We are excited to bring back the Fort Collins Outlaws name and establish a youth tackle football

program in Fort Collins that will be built on the fundamentals of hard work, character development and

good sportsmanship. We will work to develop the athletes who are part of our organization and will do

things the right way.

Our success will not just be measured by our results on the field but also by the impact we have on the

families who are part of organization.

GO OUTLAWS!!
